This study has received ethical approval from the Office of Research Services at the University of Toronto.
Agreement: These rules govern all contests related to Smokers’ Panel, a study lead by the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit at the University of Toronto. Prize details, additional instructions and, if necessary, additional rules, are set out on the rules and regulations page of smokerspanel.ca. No purchase is necessary to enter any contest. The act of entering a contest constitutes acceptance of the contest rules and the decisions of the contest judge.
Eligibility: The Contest is open to all residents of Ontario who have attained the age of 18, except for employees, immediate families and anyone living with any employee of the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit. To be eligible, participants must complete the initial quantitative web-based survey, which is available online at smokerspanel.ca. Participants can only register once.
Contest: Start and end dates for the registration, baseline and follow-up survey contest are set out by the anniversary date of each individual survey launch. That is, Smokers’ Panel started recruitment on January 23, so each of the draw for registration will take place on the 23rd of January each year. The baseline survey was launched on June 23, so the baseline draw will take place on the 23rd of June each year. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th follow-up surveys were or are going to be launched on March 10, so the draw will take place on the 10th of March each year. Draws for special study prizes will occur one month after the close of the special study. Selected participants are chosen by random draw. The selected participant will be contacted by email or telephone by a representative of the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit, and the participant must reply within 48 hours to maintain eligibility. In order to be eligible to win, the selected contestant must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
Compensation: For completion of the registration survey, participants will be eligible to win 1 $100 Visa or Mastercard gift card; for the baseline survey, participants will be eligible to win 1 $500 Visa or Mastercard gift card; for completion of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th follow-up surveys, participants will be eligible to win either 1 $400 Visa or Mastercard gift card or 1 of 2 $50 Visa or Mastercard gift cards each year. Upon notification of winning, winners will be asked to supply an address that they want the prize shipped to. The prize will be mailed out by priority post. Ending March 2018, 18 prize winners have received their gift cards.
Release: Prior to receiving the prize, the winner will be required to sign for the priority post package.
Privacy: We use your personal contact information to administer contests, including contacting, announcing and promoting prize winners (announcing and promoting prize winners will only occur if the winner consents). In addition, we may use this information to send you offers for additional studies or information from the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit.
